We were taking images of some famous movie costumes that were to be auctioned off, and Cory was my chief mannequin dresser. Now, you may mock, but mannequin dressing is no easy feet, especially when you have to do about 40 a day! We became friends over the 2 week period and stayed in touch. When Cory (finally!) proposed to Allison I was honored to be asked to be a part of their wedding.

The wedding will be in a private home in lovely Montecito, CA, next July and I am really looking forward to all the fun that will be had. And of course seeing Allison all dolled up in her dress. I was so excited on editing their engagement session as Allison (and Cory) has amazing skin that required absolutely no blemish retouching at all. Flawless!

We had a fun few hours on Santa Monica Pier a few weeks ago for their engagement session. It was a surprisingly hot December day and the beach and pier were packed. But we managed to find several out of the way spots that lent perfectly to what we needed to capture Allison and Cory’s love for each other. I am in LOVE with these images and hope you will be to, so leave a comment below and let me know what you think.

]]> http://www.nicolaborland.com/blog/2010/12/a-beachy-day-allison-and-corys-engagement/feed/ 3 Playing With Seaweed {An English Family Portrait} http://www.nicolaborland.com/blog/2010/06/playing-with-seaweed-an-english-family-portrait/ http://www.nicolaborland.com/blog/2010/06/playing-with-seaweed-an-english-family-portrait/#comments Mon, 07 Jun 2010 16:09:18 +0000 Nicola Borland http://www.nicolaborland.com/blog/?p=618 Hannah and I have know each other for about 10 years.  I know I can’t believe it either!  Whenever I go to Newcastle to visit my old friends there, I get to impose on Hannah, and Play, and stay with her.  It’s like going to a fully stocked mini hotel.  I get all the snacks and drinks that I need, a room to myself, a comfy sofa with all the TV channels, yummy vegetarian meals cooked to order, and the best part is, I get to hang out with the coolest person and a best friend.  We go out dancing and have a great time, but I love just hanging out and watching TV with her, chatting about old times, and how cool the guy is that worked at Kathmandu.

When she asked if I could take some family portraits for her I was delighted.  Her parents drove up from York and we all went down to the beach.  It had been nice and sunny in the morning, but of course as soon as we got there it clouded over and got a bit blustery.  But being the no complaining about the weather Brits that we are we soldiered on, and had a great time.  Dad, Ian, was finding strings of seaweed as tall as Hannah and having a little munch on them, as you do, while the rest of us were trying to staying warm.  I had a great time shooting their portrait and miss them dearly already.

]]> http://www.nicolaborland.com/blog/2010/06/playing-with-seaweed-an-english-family-portrait/feed/ 1 Alexandra and Ben, Marina Del Ray, CA http://www.nicolaborland.com/blog/2009/09/alexandra-and-ben-i-marina-del-ray/ http://www.nicolaborland.com/blog/2009/09/alexandra-and-ben-i-marina-del-ray/#comments Tue, 22 Sep 2009 23:55:19 +0000 Nicola Borland http://www.nicolaborland.com/blog/?p=150 Alexandra and Ben were married on August 16th aboard the Dandeana, a yacht through the wonderful Fantasea Yachts, based out of Marina Del Ray.  It was a beautiful day at the marina, and close family and friends were there to share the day with them.  Alex is French Canadian and met Ben while he was stationed there in the Navy.  He was the charming southern gentleman that whisked her away to live in the USA.  Her family and best friends flew in from Canada to be there and his from across the country.  There was a small language barrier, but luckily the language of love, weddings and dancing are universal and the barriers soon came down!  I think it is safe to say that this wedding had the most enthusiastic dancing I have seen in a long while!  Here are a few special images from the day, and below them a link to a cool slideshow of the day, set to music.
