I have been capturing beauty since I was only nine years old, much to the dismay of my family. On our annual holiday, I would always make them wait to go out to dinner so I could take yet another sunset photo to add to my extensive collection.
In the year before college, I progressed from sunsets to photographing people and places, capturing my travels to Australia and the South Pacific, Eastern Europe and Southern Africa. But it was the beauty in people that captured me most. While getting my BA in photography at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, I experimented with a lot of different photographic disciplines.
One day I photographed a model for a class assignment. It was so much fun, and the model kept telling me how much she liked working with me because I was so relaxed. Plus, the images came out great, and I was hooked on people, and also pets. I truly see beauty in everyone I photograph. In fact, some of my clients are more beautiful than any model that I have shot.
Being with people on their wedding day is such a privilege. It is usually the day they feel the most beautiful they have felt in their life. I am also honored to capture other special occasions, and special family members, to share with friends and family for generations.
My training and education are one part of my great photos. The other part comes from just relaxing and having fun. I think my clients, the big ones, the wee ones and the furry ones all pick up on my enthusiasm, but I also get them to just have a good time. That makes for the best images.
Born and raised in Scotland, I have got a bit of an accent, but Southern California is my home now. I moved here to continue my photography studies in this beautiful, natural environment, and now I am here to stay.
